(Simply) The Best
This setting reimagines the song through a more spacious, orchestral lens, moving away from its familiar power-ballad intensity toward a sound that feels both lifted and fluid. Forward motion is shaped through orchestration rather than force—lines are passed, layered, and gradually expanded, allowing momentum to build within a more transparent and evolving texture. The result is a balance between drive and suspension, where the melody emerges with clarity and warmth inside a continuously unfolding sonic space.
This one features my friends Dakota Andersen on Vocals and Ian Weidmann on Soprano Saxophone
I'll Be Seeing You
This setting begins with a sense of intimacy and restraint, allowing the melody to unfold within a subtle, spacious texture. As the arrangement develops, motion gradually emerges through shifting orchestration and expanding ensemble interplay, leading into a driving swing that brings the ensemble into full clarity and energy. In its final moments, the music recedes—returning to a quieter, more reflective space, where the initial intimacy is reimagined through the lens of what has passed.
I enjoyed writing this arrangement for my friend Dakota Andersen.
Echoes of resilience
My Foolish Heart
A beautiful ballad, this tune has always been a favorite of mine to play and listen to. At the time of arranging this piece, I was exploring how to get different textures and timbres out of a jazz big band by using woodwinds, differently muted brass. and harmonic choices.
It was such a privelege to write this arrangement for my friend Julie Coggiola. In the live performance here along with Julie, it also features Jeongmin Rojas on piano.
